A

I've been thinking about this introduction for days. I've been wondering how much personal detail I wanted to include (and what did I even want to include?). About who would be reading this. Should I even tell my friends I'm a part of this project. Would you, reading this now know me? Would you understand my lifestyle? My humor, my choices?

What format should this be in? What did I miss about this day that looking back a year from now, I'll think- man, I wanted the world to know that. So, fellow Philadelphians, and the world at large the following is a recounting of my January 8th, 2024.

Some things I'd like to share with y'all, I'm a bartender in the broader Fishtown area, and so is my partner. Like a lot of people in the industry, both my partner and I are off on Mondays- so it's been our date day since we started dating. We generally get up to some debauchery non-sense, and rope our fellow industry friends into it.

I was at a bar when the clock ticked over to midnight, having just finished work. I convinced my coworker to come out with my partner and I. Here's drink, and shot #1

I was never a tea drinker, I only drank it when I went fishing, but the partner loves ‘em.

And a shot of Fernet to sip on

And then after we finished another round of drinks we changed locations.

I love PBR Drink

Drink #3 Shot #2

I get another shot here (#3). At one point my partner and I were propositioned a threesome, we declined.

We change venues, I drink more and lose count. Talk to some fellow bartenders and ended the night around 4am.

Woke up to the TV on the murder mystery channel, surrounded by my cats, it was roughly 11am.

I don't get out of bed till I get so hungry I'm being grumpy, some time around 3pm. My partner suggested burgers, and we wanted a change of scenery so we make our way down to South Philly.

Yeah they were really good. This particular bar has actual birch beer in all of its Pennsylvanian Dutch glory. While we were here I reached out to a different coworker to see if he wanted to hang out. He did, and my partner and I slowly made our way to the bar where we planned to meet up. We had a few pit stops along the way.

I should not be left unchecked in a bookstore, I will buy too many books. I ended up buying these two, a collection of short stories and a revised/updated copy of City of Bones.

My partner is much the same way in the record store, we both had to set a buying limit of $40.

We were cold walking around so we stopped by the thrift store to grab another layer. I also got very distracted by books here.

This stop made us late to meet up with my coworker.

But we got there eventually!

And my friend also got a burger!

My partner invited their coworker out too, as it was his birthday. He met up with us and we found out that he had gotten a burger from the same place we had been at earlier! Seems like everyone had the same idea. Grilled cheese burger. Mmm.

First time having Hoop Tea, it was pretty good.

Ended up at a smoking bar, had a blast watching a weird movie and talking movie trivia. It was probably the highlight of the day.

Stopped into a friend's work to return his debit card he had left the night before, and to grab another drink closer to home.

I eventually ended the day where I started it. And that was my January 8th.

A's just a human who loves their friends and drinking. You can find them with a beer at your local bar.
