Abbie

i woke up and unfortunately had to work. i took my vyvanse, which i have semi-complicated feelings about. i wonder if i would need it if i worked in an office instead of from home. i didn’t know i had adhd until 2020, about 2 years after i graduated college, and while i did struggle sometimes, i think its much worse now. also my vyvanse is expensive, even though my health insurance is apparently pretty good. i’ve only had it 2 months, and it cost about $80 both times.

anyway. i did my morning chores. showering, feeding the cats and myself. i also like to start my days by making a to-do list. there are things that always go on there (‘litterbox’ , ‘dishes’), but this was the day after christmas, so there was more than a typical day. i had to unpack! originally, i hadn’t planned on this being a task to finish that day. but the vyvanse kicked in, and clearing out a laundry basket of gifts was seeming a lot more interesting than the task i had for work, especially when everyone’s bubbles were grey (not online), pink (out of office), and yellow (away). i scrolled thru for a while before i found any green (available) or red (in a meeting/busy).

and i had done some minimal unpacking last night - things like my toothbrush, a book i was reading - so it wasn’t much to do, once i got started. i got so excited with this general maintenance that i added more things to do, like laundry and picking through my closet for clothes to give away.

unsurprisingly, i ended up doing the bare minimum at work. i answered an email that was sent to a team that i’m on from someone who wanted us to answer a question. i cleared out my email inbox. i added my pto days to my timesheet. i didn’t feel bad that i didn’t work on my task, at least not for long. it was the day after christmas!

after work (which i say tongue-in-cheek), i grabbed some bananas and cereal from the brand new giant at broad and washington. i’m excited its there! the sprouts is nice, but expensive, and the target doesn’t have more than the essentials, so i usually just get distracted by the nail polish and candles. for dinner, well, i’m writing this a couple days later, and i’ve already forgotten what i ate. dear reader, please forgive me. i know my other banalities have been interesting so far. let’s say it was pasta.

the real highlight of that day, and of 90% of thursdays for me, was trivia at cartesian. i go every week with a group of friends i met through my partner, who is nice enough to not go, because he wants trivia to be my thing, but (not to discount him here) frankly he is already busy enough.

so this is us. i asked permission to include their photos in this! not to rat her out, but my friend in the ballcap is not a regular, more of a guest star. we were also down 2 of our regulars, who were away because of the holiday. the holiday also being why we were dressed up - the bar was doing 10% off for ugly christmas sweaters.

as always, we had a lovely time. our trivia guy, sean, did two picture rounds instead of his usual one, so that was exciting. i was proud to recognize one of the images as being from the x-files because the back of scully’s head and right shoulder were visible in the corner. the only facts i remember now are (1) a group of polar bears is a sleuth and (2) christmas lights can be seen from space. in the end, we got 2nd place because our answer to the tiebreaker question was bad. i’m glad we placed, because we change our name every time we place, and this week’s was christmas-themed (‘sleigh ride or die’ - we always do some kind of portmanteau. once, it was natalie portmanteau).

then i walked home and got in bed. it wasn’t too late yet, so i read a book i wasn’t enjoying. it’s called overthrow by caleb crain, and it’s overwritten. tldr, its set during the occupy movement. there’s a group that hacks what ends up being a govt contractor. but the longest chapters (100ish pages! ridiculous!) are given to the author’s apparent self-insert, who just so happens to be a 16th century english lit phd candidate, so there’s an unreasonable amount of time spent explaining his phd and studies. i’m writing this on sunday the 29th, and i was grateful to have finished it earlier this afternoon. i’m excited for the next books in the queue.

thank you for spending some moments reading about my very regular day. have a happy new year!

abbie is a lover of bagels and her 2 darling cats. she also loves her partner dom who is a co-founder at SideQuest & wants to plug that in her little bio. she (as a non-improv person) recognizes that improv is seen as kinda cringe, but she would still recommend seeing a show there!
