Austin
I haven’t really been sleeping lately. I don’t want to and I feel like I could spend the time doing
something more worthwhile. I don’t do any of those things anyways.
I started my new job at the wine bar yesterday. Well, kind of; I had a shift a two weeks ago but
was out of town for a week-- so this was a grand reopening of sorts for me. I was afraid that I
was going to be late because I procrastinated getting ready and then when I finally get ready I
had a medical issue.
I’ve had an infected cyst on my back—about the size of a golf ball—and yesterday right
before I left for work it decided to pop, so I had to spend 15-20 minutes trying to apply a
bandage to my back while wiping up any leakage (gross). Luckily, I made it on time and
managed to stop at Walgreens on the way there to pick up some bigger bandages and some
ibuprofen and I made it through the day.
After waking up today I realized that the cyst has shrunk significantly——a relief since I
worked again today and I’d rather not deal with that again.
Work was fine, we were a little busy when we opened at 5 for happy hour but it didn’t get
crazy or anything. Honestly, this is somewhat of a dream job—the past few years I’ve been
getting more into wine and trying to learn to talk about it (I’ve been watching Frasier). This job
is basically talking to people about wine the whole time (along with serving it to them).
I always say I want to write when I get home but I never have the drive. I never have the drive
to do it before work either.
I got off at around 11:30. I refuse to go to bed.
Austin has lived in Philadelphia for two years after moving from Manhattan. He is a PhD student, but we’ll see how that works out for him.
