Emily

6:47 am - I've been awake for 47 minutes, but barely. Guess I'll get out of bed now.

I'm making my bed the lazy way- smoothing the blankets while still underneath, then shimmy-ing out. I haven't done this since middle school.

I swish around a large gulp of water. My mouth felt like a pile of soggy Triscuits when I woke up.

I got dressed, put on my usual stacks of rings, swapped my bag for the day, grabbed a charged battery for my camera.

I put coffee on, some espresso beans from Càphê Roasters in a slightly mangled moka pot. "I need to replace this" repeats in my head through the whole ordeal. the espresso is way too strong.

"I'll find a way (to carry it all)" by Sam Wilkes & Dylan Day plays from my phone.

I'd been considering this day the night before. How many of my day's decisions will be shaped by the notion of this day being seen- that is, documented & narrated, then published? What, exactly, do I hope to convey? Can I shed those expectations and simply exist? (for sure no, but we persist)

I take my dog for a short walk and look for compositions in the never-ending development of my neighborhood. I toss her a treat for not barking at a passerby

8:03 - There's something deeply vulnerable about running to catch the bus with a tiny coffee in hand.

Caught the Navy Yard shuttle, stuck standing in the aisle. It always feels a bit wild to be zooming down 95 while standing.

Got to work, picked up another coffee and breakfast. Staff had a meeting, us freelancers sat around waiting. Spent the rest of the morning styling keychains.

12:31 - Wolfed down a chicken sandwich, iced tea, and a smoothie. Then went for a walk along the Delaware while listening to Jon Stewart interview Ta-Nehisi Coates.

12:45 - at the furthest point of my walk, I realize my lunch decisions weren't great and I power walk back to the studio bathroom.

The rest of the afternoon is an unmemorable haze of stomach aches and styling flats. I leave a little before 5 to catch the shuttle back to center city. The man I sit next to is unaware of the space he occupies, so I let my purse dig into his thigh. He doesn't take the hint. I catch the MFL at 8th st, back towards fishtown.

A pair of Chloé shoes I scored on ebay arrived for me in the afternoon. I'm excited to try them on (I bought another pair the week prior that were too small). They fit.

The evening is a blur of lazily scrolling tiktok and eating a bowl of rice, chicken, and broccoli. I was hoping to spend some time sewing in my studio, but I'm beat and I have the rest of the week off. Steven and I cozy up to watch tv on the couch but we get high before we can settle on what we're going to watch, so we check out some previews, we decide to start the Batman trilogy this coming weekend. Then watch the Mary Tyler Moore Show's pilot episode. Neither of us has watched that show before.
