Kelsey Hubbell

I started my day at my favorite yoga studio, HPY Philly, in Point Breeze. I have been loving the infrared sauna style sweat, an added bonus to an already amazing workout. Drenched, I rode home to give my dog, Winston, his first walk of the day.

After our walk I rode my bike to the office, which takes about 10 minutes. What a luxury it is to have a commute that's less than 15 minutes and gets your body moving. The density and walkability is one of my favorite things about Philadelphia.

I work for the City on the Innovation Ecosystem team. We are currently gearing up for the 11th cohort of our Academy of Municipal Innovation. It's a 10-week program for City employees to learn design thinking and systems thinking skills to create better and more creative solutions to government problems.

After work I biked home, gave Winston his second walk of the day. Quickly changed and headed over to Passyunk Ave. to meet some girlfriends for drinks and snacks at Barcelona Wine Bar. The weather was divine, so we snagged patio seats and drank and ate our fair share of wine and carbohydrates.

After gals night I took Winston on another long walk, we love a good night walk, while catching up with a friend on the phone. Strolling through Queen Village under the cover of darkness with my gentle giant of a pup is a truly magical hobby of mine.

It was a pretty solid, and typical, Tuesday for me in Philly. I took ~16,000 steps, enjoyed good food in my neighborhood, and spent time with people I love. La dolce vita!

In 2022 Kelsey uprooted her life in Detroit and relocated to Philly, knowing no one but seeking dense, walkable neighborhoods and a career change. She can often be seen around town on her bicycle or getting her 15k daily steps in with her pitbull/Rottweiler buddy Winston. Follow her on instagram @kayhubbs or substack for hot takes on urbanism and Detroit/Philly recs.
