MaKayla

the maĂĽs himself

4:30am - my cat maĂĽs wakes me up with his earthshaking purring as he lays down in his favorite spot— right across my face. he’s an alarm clock that’s always too early. he lays on me for a full hour, purring on full volume and too stubborn to move. i lay in the dark and hope sleep can take me so i can return to my dream about vampires.

5:30am - i accept defeat and get out of bed to get ready to go to work. i noticed people are usually nicer to me when my hair is done so i decide to blow out my hair today.

my view while i wait for the bus

6:01am - maĂĽs purposefully misplaced himself so he would not get his morning allergy medicine. he is stubborn but i am persistent and eventually am successful. i miss the bus and walk to work. its still dark out and the city is barely rousing. i say good morning to the one neighbor i see— a rat climbing out of a trash can.

doodles from work, pick your fave

6:26am - the first hour and a half of work is my favorite. it’s quiet and freshly cleaned and the office is completely empty. it won’t be anyone but me in here until about 8am. i’m caught up on my messages so i allow myself to look over my personal to do list:

-check reservations (trying to get a res at michelin star restaurant to surprise my boyfriend on our upcoming trip)

-return skirt (bought something i thought would work for a cosplay but it’s the wrong color)

-walk by pin after work (i pinned a potential location for a photo shoot)

-dance class @ 7 (trying a new studio! exciting!)

8:30am - my first patient of the day is late, which means i have time to go get something from the cafeteria. the cafe at my job is never very good but always cheap. i get green tea.

9:00am - my second patient is also late. i’m doing paperwork while texting my boyfriend. i think i see a shadowy figure walk by out of the corner of my eye despite knowing that im currently alone in the clinic. i say good morning.

10:23am - i realize im out of audiobook listening time on spotify. instead, i read the book i happened upon last night instead of reading anything on my TBR. this book is not very good but reminds me of The Mummy from 1999 and i can’t put it down.

12:00pm - more patients are running late. i pop in a headphone and listen to an hour and thirty minute long video on the *dark truth* of Roblox’s Dress to Impress with its horror ARG subplot. i don’t skip a single ad, someone is talking about secret hotel rooms. i check my email too.

1:30pm - lunchtime: i brought a boring sandwich from home. i realize almost all the snacks i brought are orange. carrots, a clementine, sharp cheddar cheese, all natural peanut butter crackers that are a shade of orange-brown that’s reminiscent of a Jersey Shore tan.

2:15pm - listened to a youtube video on the babygirlification and the cycle of abuse of modern vampires (a case study on baldur’s gate 3) while working. i won’t see anymore patients today so i put my hair up in a claw clip— the blow out definitely did its job. mentally i say thank you to my knock off dyson air wrap.

3:07pm - off work and on the way to drop off my return. it’s raining. i bought an umbrella for $18.26 which is too expensive if you ask me.

taking a peak in the little library to see if there’s anything good (there’s not)

3:09pm - i realize the umbrella i bought is already broken.

a flower i found on my walk home

4:16pm - i walked home and stopped at the photo location on the way, everything looks good and well lit. i make dinner and eat another orange thing (baked sweet potato). i lay down to read after dinner and my cat purrs on top of me for at least 35 minutes.

5:40pm - i am dressed and leave for my new dance class. i check my bag 3 times. i know i have everything but still feel like i forgot something. i listen to kpop on the train.

art in the dance studio ft glare from the lights

6:12pm - got to the new dance studio (flaunt fitness) super early. the studio is so pretty and everyone is welcoming. i read while i wait for class.

7:00pm - *busy dancing to megan thee stallion*

me in the dance studio bathroom lol

8:11pm - leaving the studio, i notice the bar next door super busy. there’s drag queens and costumes and everyone is dressed in club attire despite that it’s a monday. the DJ is good too, i’m tempted to peak inside but my knees are already bruising from class (lots of floor work). a man stops me to ask if im interested in going into the bar with him even though im clearly in gym clothes. i call my uber and pull up next weeks dance schedule to book my next dance class here.

my unmade bed (i promise i own more than one pillow)

9:30pm - getting into bed early. i write down to buy more oil cleanser— a necessary step in my skincare routine. i set 17 alarms to make sure i wake up on time and i play eleven ambiance music so i can feel like im in lord of the rings as i fall asleep. despite being tired i crack open another book and hope i dream of vampires again.
