Pablo

My journal entry day was a good one. I had been anticipating it and when I hit the record button on my life at midnight going from the 7th to the 8th I found myself "Upstairs @ The 700" in northern liberties, where my friends Sofia and Ami were throwing the fifth and latest edition of their dance party series called Ordinary World.

The music and vibes were great and a lot of my friends were there. My partner Ashten had met up with me there and we had a nice time on the dance floor. I took a terrible picture of one of the DJs in the booth!

I knew I wanted to play soccer in the morning so I kept my senses closed to all hints of any after parties and went home around 1:45 am.

Molly, our wonderful diary host, knows that one of my defining internal struggles is a tug of war between the desire to stay up all night doing stupid shit and the love I have for playing soccer early in the morning. She at one point ( and I count this among my favorite things anyone has ever said to me ) characterized it as a "high school musical problem." I'll never forget that.

The tension in that struggle within me leads to horrible things, such as a phone screen saying "alarm set for 4 hours from now", and all associated dread.

Soccer wasn't until 8:30 but I've learned that hydrating before playing is crucial, so wake up 4 hours later indeed I did.

I must admit I did for a few minutes crawl back under the covers, having convinced myself it was stupid to go play soccer on 4 hours of sleep. Most other days I would have gone back to sleep but I hadn't played in 2 months due to injury and I finally was feeling strong enough to do it so I did actually get back out of bed to start chugging water and gettin ready.

I've been playing with the same pickup group for a few years now and made it to the spot right on time at around 8:30.

It was a beautiful morning with shining hot sun tempered by regular cool breezes making for perfect soccer weather. I even saw a blue jay!

I had a lot of fun playing, and did pretty well on the field, all the time thinking how wonderful it is to need so little sleep... lying to oneself is so classic.

Anyway I got back home around 11am and we went for brunch at The Dutch on Passyunk around where my friend Luna was working. She hooked it up with some coffees and I had the chorizo hash breakfast.

We had originally planned to head to west philly for porchfest after eating but also had plans to catch a friend's set at a block party on south street. All the east west travel seemed too annoying to actually do it so we stayed south and made our way to the Vicarious Love block party outside Bob and Barbara's.

Having an hour or so before my friend's set was scheduled to start we decided to go lay on the grass at Rittenhouse Park. At this point I started to really feel my legs barkin, and I started to think that maybe I should've kept sleeping instead of playing soccer lol but fuck it we ball.

Back at the south st block party we linked up with a good number of friends also there to see our mutual friend Kenny's set, which took place inside Bob and Barbara's.

He sings over music he produces to provide heartfelt dancey effect! you should check him out.

Vicarious Love did a great job curating a fun dance vibe outside with their dj selection and we hung out for a few more hours waiting to hear music from our other friend Bobby who was also going to perform.

At around 7:30 he still hadn't gone on, already about 40 minutes delayed. I was starting to feel the lets say adverse effects from the lack of sleep and the physical exertion of the morning so I decided to go home , consume a bunch of pasta and take a nap.

One of the most fucked up ways to wake up is at 10pm after a 2 exhaustion nap. I didnt know when or where I was. I was in a panic, sure of being late for something, of having made some crucial life altering mistake at some point in the last few hours. Of course none of that was true and after a half hour of doom scroll driven dissociation on the couch I actually managed to rally and go back out to a friend's house from which we planned to hit an outdoor rave we knew about.

It was there in the midst of some good conversations that midnight struck again. I didnt get to do everything I wanted in the 24 hours I was to be documenting but it was still a great day full of standard Pablo activities.

The rave we knew about was getting shut down by the cops by the time we got there but the Bounce House was having their last party of the season down the street so we hung out there for a while. Admittedly this all happened after midnight so I'll end the entry here with a picture I took from the roof of the function, looking at the skyline of the city I love.

love you Molly thanks for switching days with me months ago =)

you're sure to catch Pablo all over the place doing all sorts of things with people he loves
