5:32am

I wake up before my dog for the first time in five years. I fell asleep at 9:37pm the night before (being 30 is fun) so I am alert and ready to start the day. Dog into harness, walk to the park, “good lil potty girl” awarded to Fred, back to the apartment to chug coffee and try my own hand at being a good lil potty girl before a ten mile run. Leave a note on the fridge for Mike that says “Took her out but can you feed her when you’re up? Thank you!”

6:20am

Mike from bedroom: “Do I need to feed or let out Fred?”

6:24am

Depart for run. Schuylkill river trail up to near East Falls and back. Played Texas Hold Em’ by Beyonce for the entirety of miles 7-8.5 so I could disassociate for 15 minutes. Pretended I was a hot cowgirl wearing chaps instead of a winded woman whose ass was getting chapped by the frigid Philadelphia air.

8:12am

Return home from the run to let no one in particular know that I am done running and that the Love Run will be my last half for a while. I am lying, but this insufferable diatribe is part of my training process. Shower, eat, start work for the day.

11:00am

Hop on the phone with John at The Franklin Institute to talk about their upcoming programming and how I can best support the museum’s Science After Hours events.

11:45am

Uber to Flambo on 13th for a meeting with owner Kevin about an upcoming event. I get a tour of their beautiful space, hear how he and his dad are bringing a special taste of Trinidadian culture to our city, and am totally blown away by the work they’ve put into actualizing their dream restaurant. I walk towards home thinking about Carnival and rum punch.

12:45pm

Quick stop by Rittenhouse Market for baking powder, vanilla extract, and walnuts. While shopping, I chat with my brother Matt on the phone about when he and the fam might come visit. Wave of sadness about how much I miss my nieces and nephew. Bake banana oatmeal bars.

2:00pm

Departmental call/workshop on brand voice and copywriting for social media.

2:30pm

Pen a blog for work called “25 hot & new women-owned restaurants to visit in 2024” as part of our Women’s History Month campaign.

3:43pm

Show Mike my just-delivered ski outfit that I ordered as “try before you buy” on Amazon (this is so I can promptly return it after our upcoming Poconos weekend, where I will attempt to ski for the first and probably last time. Don’t tell Mr. Bezos). We have a discussion about whether or not I truly NEED goggles. He insists yes. I tell him if he sends me one more “ski fail” Instagram reel I am going to cancel my lesson and drink margaritas in the lodge all day instead.

6:09pm

I watch as the 17 bus rolls by my stop before I am able to get there, knowing I will now be late for improv practice. Speed walk to the BSL, ride a few stops, and arrive at Sawubona Creativity Project on Passyunk. My team, Remain Dog, is getting ready for an upcoming show at Tattooed Mom on 2/26. We warm up with our coach, do some scene work, and run a Harold (our form of improv that includes an opener, scenes, and group games). I laugh for two hours straight.

8:37pm

Back in an Uber, this time up to Fairmount where I am meeting friends at Urban Saloon. I order a Downeast on draught and everyone agrees the winter blend is…not very good. Ally and Erin both let me know they have ski goggles for me for this weekend, and our team comes in second at trivia even though we all arrived late.

10:47pm

Mike and I head back home. Ice cream treats and chats, half an episode of Love Is Blind, snuggle the dog, and asleep at the much less geriatric hour of 11:45pm.
