I initially woke up around 9am but hit snooze several times. This is pretty typical behavior for me, but this morning especially considering I stayed out til 1am the night before. Tuesday night karaoke at 12 steps down wasn’t packed for once so I decided to stay late and catch up with a friend. Then, on my way home, I topped off my night at Triangle Tavern for some mussels and one last high life. I keep failing to fix my sleep schedule due to my own impulsive habits. As I keep hitting snooze this morning, I tell myself it was worth it (debatable).
Needless to say, I didn’t start my day until the last possible second. At around 11:30am, I got dressed and rushed out the door to my closing shift at the cafe. I hope there's not still pillow lines on my face by the time I make it in. My shift was business as usual, except Easter decorations had just gone up. I comment on how cute they are.
All the typical regulars come in- Joe for his double, Alex for his 3rd or 4th coffee, and Jerry for his “morning” 1:30pm cappuccino. In the evening, Grace comes in for her pastry and coffee. She always has a fun fact to share. Today she explained to me what an affogato is and how it’s funny because it sounds like “I forgot”. For dinner, I have sushi from next door, a weekly tradition for me at this point.
I finish up at the cafe around 8:30pm and make it to the bar for a post work beer. I’m exhausted, but happy to sit down and read for a bit. I’m reading “The Copenhagen Trilogy” by Tove Ditlevsen. I’m really enjoying it, but it’s depressing and keeps making me feel melancholic and existential. I close out at the bar and once I get home, I almost immediately fall asleep.
