I get up around 11. I guess I was up late watching interviews of Corey Taylor.
Once I have my coffee I walk down to the Schuykill river park. I walk to the area with a playground. It's just nice to sit and there's kids and their parents. This one kid is so sweet. He's wearing this spiderman bicycle helmet that's about half the size of his body. I'm laughing with his mom as he plays in the sprinkler. He's bouncing this tennis ball all around the place. And they have this awesome brown dog. They are like the perfect family.
I'm not sure how I landed on this subject. I've been doing drawings of mother and son. Recently. I've really done a 180. Spent my whole adolescence and teenage years repulsed by reproduction, and now look at me. i guess it is a biological thing.
Now I'm in Ritt. Found kindof a great spot, uptop how i like. I really spend a lot a lot of time in parks on my days off. Drawing. The spots I like to sit in are up high if possible. Gives a good vantage point, and less likely for people to suspect you of drawing them and get spooked. Had to stop at the Blickington earlier for some more pens. I blow through pens from writing or drawing. Maybe I have a heavy hand. But the Dick Blick takes all my money. I'm staring across from these guys I see at the bar all time. They split a 6 pack, but the one guy is super fucked up already. It's sweet the two of them hanging out. I think the one guy is a pretty known graffiti writer. He makes a pretty great subject right now with his cool hat so I draw him. I think about how parks are so great. Third spaces are awesome. The people are always so interesting cause there's no barrier to entry. I'll run out of pages in this sketchbook soon which sucks. This one's pretty special. My friend stole it for me in May. It's a nice moleskin one that I took to Japan. It's got all my notes and drawings from there.
This city feels very small often. This woman looks like she's trying to come up and talk to me, but she talks to someone else. I'm pretty good at looking unnaproachable. Boards of Canada is so good for drawing. I love Boards of Canada. But I think all good music is good for drawing. I say that but then I wonder why I can't drop a steady line in my painting while I'm listening to the most philly beatdown band ever. That's the best though. It's all part of the process. Draw a shaky line. Redraw it. Like listen to Cycle of Abuse or 10 Sluggz and work on your drawings. It's so fucking fun. Makes you better.
